Now That's What I Call Community!: Professional Development through Local Collaboration

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Everyone loves the camaraderie of a statewide/national conference with its endless learning opportunities and networking events. However, for some a trip to MLA, ACRL, or ALA isn't enough. For others, it can be difficult to find funds and time for an overnight, multi-day conference. This is when a regional library community can be used to supplement learning and networking. The Lake Superior Libraries Symposium is just such a regional group, dedicated to developing the local library community and educational experiences in the Northland. Comprised of library professionals and like-minded allies from diverse roles and types of libraries, the group has hosted small conferences, tours, socials, and unconferences and has learned a lot along the way! Attendees will learn about how a DIY, come-as-you-are community can be a way to further develop skills, relationships, and community. Expect a list of tools to take home.
