Coach Your Team to Greatness!
One of the library’s most important assets is its staff; however, we often wait a full year to give them feedback on their work. Recently Anoka County Library switched to a quarterly coaching model, which included writing new work outcome statements for all staff and training supervisors to be coaches who meet with staff quarterly to review progress on their goals and improve performance. These coaching sessions allow a supervisor to check in on goals, training needs, ideas and more. In this session you will learn what the coaching model is and how it was implemented in Anoka County, how the coaching model changed the way supervisors and staff interact and improved communication in the library, how to fit these coaching sessions into your busy schedule, and how to get staff buy-in by developing work outcome statements from the ground up with feedback from all staff.

This program is all about libraries helping other libraries. Minnesota librarians, library directors, and state library leadership will now have the chance to help lead the nation with this practical approach to collaboration. Kentucky has successfully piloted this concept for the last six years with the Kentucky Sister Library Project (KSLP). More with Less: Project Management for Beginners
There isn't enough time. There isn't enough money. Time and money are the two most precious and finite resources in a library, and there simply isn't enough of either. Yet, we are constantly asked to do more, to do more with less. In this session we will explore techniques and methods to stretch our time and money by relying on project management techniques. Library roles are increasingly becoming project-oriented, from collection management to summer reading programs, most of our day-to-day activities are actually projects with a budget and a specific start and end date. Learn how the basic tenets of project management can help you and your team work smarter, not harder while delivering the high quality services your patrons have come to expect. Participants will explore principles of project management through examples from many areas of library work, including the construction of a new building, fundraising, event planning, and collection management.
