Jamie L. Hoehn began working in an archives as an undergraduate. Like many student workers, she got covered in dust and red rot, but more importantly, she got bitten by the “archives bug.” Concurrent with earning her MLIS at St. Catherine University, Hoehn worked for a number of years in the reference department at the Minnesota Historical Society. Presently, she spends her days as an Assistant Archivist at the University of Minnesota, where she works with two archival collections, the Immigration History Research Center Archives (IHRCA) and the Social Welfare History Archives (SWHA). Her duties include reference, instruction and collection management. Additionally, Hoehn manages the social media presence for the IHRCA across multiple platforms and collaborates on social media content for the SWHA. Hoehn enjoys connecting researchers with information, both actively through reference work and instruction, as well as through less direct means, such as through users’ social media feeds. Her favorite part about working in an archives is that she is always learning something new.
