Kathryn Pierce, Branch Librarian, ECRL, Aitkin Library

Kathryn (Katie) Pierce is a public librarian with the East Central Regional Library system. She currently serves as the branch librarian for the Aitkin Public Library in north-central Minnesota, where she enjoys living in proximity to many beautiful lakes. Katie earned her Master of Library and Information Science degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s School of Information Studies in August 2015, where she completed a capstone project related to the history of fanfiction and its applications for teen programming in the public library. While living in Milwaukee, Katie had the opportunity to lead an outreach summer reading program to the under-served Sherman Park neighborhood through a partnership between university professors and local community groups. This, along with her background as a student of Political Science and Intercultural Communication, and her previous service as an AmeriCorps VISTA, has made Katie into a major advocate for community involvement and the library as community center. Some of her other areas of particular interest include teen services, readers’ advisory, social media, graphic novels, LGBTQ+ literature, and diversifying collections.
